| The history of District 33 is very exciting, reminding me somewhat of a talented and resourceful child in its continuous search for new horizons and its utter contempt for failure and discouragement. As I started the search for the roots of District 33, I became increasingly excited. Suddenly I was reliving the wonderful memories of 36 years of service and friendship in Quota. District 33 is the result first of a division of District 12, then later of District 25, the divisions being necessitated by growth in Quota. At one time, District 12 was comprised of all California and Nevada totaling 24 clubs. Fresno was the oldest club in our District 33 and is a direct descendent of District 12. Fresno was chartered in December on the 15th day of 1934. Paso Robles is now the oldest club in District 33. The charter was presented to our beloved founder, Wanda Frey Joiner on January 17, 1953 with 25 new members, all very service oriented and ready to promote Quota as a part of District 12. Myrtle DeChaine was the Charter President. Paso Robles still has 2 of its Charter members, with a current total of 50 members. Visalia was presented their charter in April 1954. This club has one past District 33 governor plus Dr. Ciwa Griffiths of the Hear Foundation in Los Angeles as an honorary member. In October of 1954, the total number of clubs in District 12 was 29, becoming increasingly difficult for the governor to do justice to her district. District 12 Conference was held in Palo Alto in October 1954. At that time District 12 was divided and District 25 was formed. The first district Conference of District 25 was held on October 1955 at the Lafayette Hotel in Long Beach. At that time, the first newsletter from District was sent to each club in the 25th District under the trite title of "Chit Chat." A contest for a new name for the district newsletter was held and the first edition of Quota Gram came out in June 1957. The 2nd annual Conference of District 25 was held on October 5th, 6th and 7th, 1956 at the Paso Robles Inn. Myrtle DeChaine of Paso Robles was elected our new Governor and knowing Myrtle as we did, we knew she would guide us enthusiastically through our next year of adventure and freethinking. Our district was young and full of Quota spirit. "We Share," was a working part of our district. In 1957 two more clubs were added and in 1958 we had three new clubs, which included Bakersfield. In 1959 the San Bernardino club withdrew, but three new clubs were added which included the live wire club from Porterville. 1961 and 1962 were service minded and growing years for District 25. Clovis was chartered and full of enthusiasm. In August if 1963 Santa Maria was added to the 25th District. Pride was running rampant at this time with the growth if Quota in District 25. On October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in 1964, at the 10th Annual Conference of the 25th District, there was much thought and soul searching given to striking out for ourselves in a new district. The 25th District had 562 members, and 191 if these were in the proposed new District 33. At this 1964 Conference, with Martha Bates from Fresno appointed as the first Governor and Elizabeth Cousins of Paso Robles at the Lt. Governor, the new District 33 was created with 7 clubs and 191 members. October 29th thru 31st of 1965 was District 33's first Annual Conference. "Adventure’s in Friendship" was the theme and seemed especially appropriate. Visalia was our host and Lois Smith, International Treasurer, was the International Representative. Martha Bates was elected Governor and we were out to convert the world to Quota. "Baby 33" was a new generation of Quota who used policies and International rules as a guideline, but did not hesitate to initiate new ideas and if not feasible, to International, why? New Ideas, new concepts, new members, new classifications, and new clubs all accompanied by "why" and if not, give us a reason. Wanda Frey Joiner was always young-at-heart and very close to our new District. Wanda, at age 82, presented the Charter to Morro Bay on March 19, 1965. This was the last charter she presented. Garnet Coughlin was the Charter President and was also an old friend of Wanda Fry Joiner's from Southern California. Korleen Keen and Myrtle DeChaine, two very knowledgeable past District Governors one from District 12 and the other from District 25, organized Quota Club of Lompoc. The Charter was presented on October 2, 1965 and Leona Cowan, past International Officer, installed the officers. This club was chartered just 27 days prior to our first District 33 Conference. We now had 10 clubs, so District 33 was growing. In 1966 we held our 2nd District 33 Conference in Santa Maria with Agnes Short, International Treasurer, representing International. Marge Stickler from Visalia was interested in Quota growth. Losing Clovis in 1966 was sad. It was the first club to be lost in our new district. Much questioning and concerned air of apprehension was evident. We were not acquainted with failure and could not take this loss lightly. In 1967 Fresno was the site of our third District Conference. We were honored with Edwina Gies, 2nd Vice President, who came to represent International. Pat Martin from Fresno was elected out Governor. Our fourth District Conference in 1968 was held in Morro Bay. Virginia Edgington of Visalia was elected Governor and Jeanetta Healey, 2nd Vice-President of International was our International representative. In 1969, we were invited to have our fifth conference in Porterville. We were thrilled that Helen Turk, International Director, and from the Los Angles Club in District 25, would be our representative from International. We all knew and loved Helen, so we had a celebration of sorts and, then, to top it all off, Mollie Chambers of Bakersfield was elected our new Governor. 1970 found us at Conference in Bakersfield with Dorothy MiIIigan, 2nd Vice-President of International keeping us informed from the International office. Mollie Chambers was re-elected Governor at this sixth Conference. The seventh District Conference for District 33 was held in Lompoc in 1971. Mary Moses from Morro Bay was elected Governor and Lynette Oliver, 3rd Vice-President was the representative from International. Mary Moses had to keep moving to stay abreast of all the members of the energetic Morro Bay Club. Paso Robles was the place for the eighth Conference of District in 1972. Again, Helen Turk, International 1st Vice-President was the International representative. Myrtle DeChaine from Paso Robles was elected Governor of the 33 District. Knowing Myrtle, who was a Charter President and a past District Governor of District 25, and now Governor of District 33, we knew our work was cut out for us. She always preached to us never price yourselves out of Quota members, so it just came natural in her year as Governor that District 33 first brought to International's attention that we felt that International Headquarters should be moved to a less expensive location where rent and salaries would be cheaper and, we are still bringing it to their attention. Cambria was chartered in 1972 on January 29th, with 46 members. The Quota Club of Morro Bay organized Cambria and the Charter was presented by Helen Turk, 1st Vice-President of Quota International and Jean Wassam was the Charter President. District 33 has the unique distinction of clubs organizing clubs instead of individuals, which makes for a more involved growth pattern. In 1973 the 9th District Conference of District 33 was held in Santa Maria with Viola Ammons from the East Area of Quota International as our International Representative. Emma Geren, charter member from Porterville was elected Governor of District 33. Emma has the unique distinction of maintaining the perfect attendance. Emma was and is a guiding light to us with her devotion to Quota and her understanding of services. I am sure that she spells Emma - QUOTA. 1974 saw Emma Geren re-elected Governor of our 33rd District. A big year for District 33 was accomplished when Paso Robles Quota Club organized the Atascadero Club. On May 10, 1974 the Atascadero Quota Club received their Charter with 25 members. We are maturing from a child in Quota to a mature adult with the growth of each new club, not to mention the constant maintenance of our clubs. The Memorial Fund for Wanda Frey Joiner was started in District 33 and later picked up by International. This fund was for the purpose of organizing new clubs and maintenance for all clubs. We practice inter-club attendance both in the meetings and social activities, going on the theory that clubs "working and playing together, grow together." Fresno was the site of our 1975, 11th Annual District 33 Conference. Barbara Tilly from Fresno was elected Governor and Mae Dailey from Area West-International was our International representative. 1976 brought our 12th District 33 Conference to Morro Bay where, again, Barbara Tilly was re-elected our Governor and Marjorie Tislow, International Treasurer was our official representative. Our 13th Annual Conference in 1977 was held in Lompoc with Marilyn Blake for Area South representing International. Stella Reed from Lompoc was elected District 33 Governor. ¬ Visalia was the site of our new 14th District 33 Conference in 1978. Mary Moses, Area West Director was our International Representative. The new District Governor elected was Jean Wassam from the Morro Bay Club. Two outstanding women from Morro Bay at the head table in executive positions in Quota made the Morro Bay Club feel 10 feet tall. Our district realized that we were full-grown in Quota with a high degree of capability and our potential just ready to spiral. Atascadero Quota Club organized a club in San Luis Obispo. June 29, 1979 the San Luis Obispo Club was chartered with 25 members. Mary Moses, Area West Director, presented the Charter. The Atascadero Club held the 15th District Conference in San Luis Obispo. Jean Coon from Santa Maria was elected Governor of District 33. Mary Moses, Area West Director, our International representative, kept us informed. We were regretfully informed that we had lost Cambria Quota Club in November 1979. The 16th Annual Conference was held in Bakersfield with Sally Pahagian, President of Quota International as out honored guest and our International Representative. Evelyn Hall was installed as Governor. The 17th Annual Conference was held in Porterville. Dixie Lee Bradley, West Area Director was our International representative and installed Shirley English as Governor. There were 356 members in the District. Quota International Charitable and Educational Foundation were established during this year. District 33 was recognized at the International Convention in Bal Harbour, Florida for fourth place for their generous contributions to this fund. Our 18th Annual Conference was in Paso Robles with Vema Murray, Central Area Director as our International Representative. Betty Hinson of Morro Bay was installed as Governor with 352 members in the district. During this year the District Handbook was updated and made available to all members in the District. The Charitable and Educational Foundation will be a Governor's Project and District 33 gave their support to this worthwhile program. Templeton was chartered June 26, 1983, 32 charter members including 3 Paso Robles members, even one of our past presidents, now that is sharing! We are now 11 clubs in District 33 and raring to go. Our 19th District Conference was held in Santa Maria in 1984 with Beverly Marcelia as our International Representative and electing Joyce Stieers of VisaIia as our new Governor of District 33. Jean Wassam of Templeton was elected Area West Director for Quota International. Dora Lee Haynes, our International Executive Director retired after many years in service to Quota on May 1984 and will be missed. Mary Moses, Morro Bay will run for 2nd Vice- President of Quota International this coming convention. Vivian Doubledee of Morro Bay was elected Governor at our 20th District Conference in 1984 with San Luis Obispo as host club; Wendy Nogle was Chairperson. Vivian has been a most devoted Quotarian and continues to serve. Paso Robles, Templeton, and Atascadero co-hosted a luncheon for Joyce Fren, Immediate Past President of Quota International and also to honor our new Area West Director, Jean Wassam of Templeton. I am sorry to say that Mary Moses did not go farther in the International ladder for Quota. She is a very valuable asset for our local clubs. 1984 brought the total number of clubs in District 33 to 12, with the birth if the Five Cities Club. The year 1985 was full of excitement. Castle Country was our "Lucky 13" club and the 21st-first District 33 Conference was held in Solvang. Florence Sinclair from Porterville was elected Governor, with Beverly Marcelia as International representative. Atascadero Quota Club did themselves proud with a very informative and fun Conference. Quota World headquarters in Washington, D.C., was purchased!! The 22nd Conference of District 33 was held in 1986 at Bass Lake with Fresno doing the honors. Bettie Floercky from Morro Bay was elected Governor with past International President Janet Popyach keeping us informed. Fresno was the perfect host club. The area was beautiful. They put the Conference together with a total of only nine members. Bettie appointed Jean Wassam as her Parliamentarian, which was a smart move. Jean was an ex-International Board Member. Castle County, our 13th club dissolved after barely one year. Fresno, the oldest club in District 33 finally had to relinquish its Charter, leaving a total of 11 clubs in our District. Paso Robles is now the oldest club in the District. Fresno is a hard act to follow. We will miss an old friend. Bettie Floercky of Morro Bay was elected Governor of District 33 for her second term at the twenty-23rd District Conference for 1987-188. Templeton was the host club. The Conference site was the Golden West Motel in Atascadero. Beverly Marcella was our International Representative. The night before the Conference Bettie's husband had a heart attack and Wendy Nogle, Lt. Governor, graciously handled Bettie’s program for her. Bettie was duly elected; the power of positive thinking was evident, and her husband is fine. Bettie was very energetic and happy asset as the Governor of District 33. Ruby Waldheim of Morro bay was elected Governor of District 33 for 1988-89. Morro Bay Quota Club did an outstanding job of Quota promotion with our 24th Conference. The Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo was the perfect backdrop for a fun and informative weekend. Ruby is fun to work with and, a real "Down To Earth" Quotarian. Ruby's claim to fame was helping to save the Quota Club of Visalia when they were having problems. Visalia is alive and well today. Nancy Keyte of Santa Maria was installed as 1989-90 Governor of District 33 at the 25th Conference in Lompoc. What a great Conference it was. Mary Moses and Betty Hinson filled in for our International Representative, Gertrude White, who was ill. Nancy started her year with "Pocket Full of Dreams". We knew that she planned to make a reality of everyone of them. What a live wire! Service, service and more service plus refunding extra District funds to all clubs pro-rated at the end of the year. The 26th District 33 Conference in 1990 elected Rita McCallum of Morro Bay our Governor. Visalia was the Host club and Visalia was the place. A rule change was instituted that has our Conference now held in September rather than in October. The bad news was that Lompoc had to disband. The lack of membership and the recession were the culprits. Paso Robles Quota Club won the Fabulous 40 Award for District 33. Our District 33 continues to support Terry Sproul's Deaf Kids Kamp. Jean Wassam's bid for Treasurer of Quota International was not to be. It's International's loss and our gain. The 27th annual District 33 Conference was held in Paso Robles in September of 1991 with Rita McCallum of Morro Bay taking a second term as a very popular Governor. Micki Ready, heading up the Paso Robles Club, did a great job as chairperson. The Conference in Paso Robles was dedicated to "Our Mom in Quota", Myrtle DeChaine. Myrtle was Paso Robles Charter President, Past District Governor of District 25 and 33, plus being a personal friend of Wanda Frey Joiner. Charlotte Schamadan, District 35, a former "Deaf Woman of the Year" in our area, was a candidate for International Area West Director. Quota Club of Bakersfield won the Fabulous 40 award for District 33 and was honored at Convention. Paso Robles donated two hearing dogs for a total of $6000, plus six $500 scholarships. San Luis Obispo donated $3,500 to Camp Hapitok, and the other clubs donated innumerable gifts of finance and service to the community as well. The Quota International Clubs donated over one million dollars to service. District 33 comprised of 293 members was responsible for $38,414 of that amount. The 28th "Coastal Classic" Fall Conference was held at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo in September 1992. Five Cities, with Joyce Wells at the helm did an outstanding job. Connie Nungaray was elected out Governor. She is a true energetic "Ball of Fire." She will surely liven up Columbus, Ohio at the International Convention. Charlotte Schamadan was our Area West Director and representative from International. She is a real asset and very good sidekick for Berverly Marcelia, Quota International President. Both are very knowledgeable and full of fun. Paso Robles honored Grace Myers for her 36 years of perfect club attendance at the 1993-94 installation. Morro Bay's Jesse Sinclair has 27 years of perfect attendance! I have attempted to trace the roots of District 33. As of June 1, 1993 our District is comprised of ten clubs and a total membership of 285. Since our District 33 was formed, we have gained eight clubs and lost five, leaving us with a net gain of three very service oriented clubs. Growth in Quota is very challenging and immensely rewarding, but how you grow is more important. We are now a mature district, able to hold our own under adverse conditions. We are hoping to add Hanford and Santa Barbara to District 33 in the near future. Congratulations to Morro Bay who has had seven Governors, two of them for two terms each, plus one International Board member. Our hats off to Templeton who can now brag of having had a member on the International Board. Such an inspiration for our District 33! I am sure that Quota International knows that District 33 is no longer the "New Kid On the Block," but instead are the "Movers and Shakers" on the West Coast! 1993 - 29th District 33 Conference - Bakersfield Quotarians at Bakersfield. Here we come, en masse!!! September 1996 Addendum to History The Bakersfield Quota Club in Bakersfield hosted the 30th Annual District 33 Conference. Charlotte Teats, President-Elect of Quota International brought greetings and information from the International Board. Connie Nungary was re-elected Governor of District 33, Beatrice Reed from the Five Cities Club became Governor-Elect and Donna Nolan was appointed Secretary-Treasurer. There were a total of 281 members as of July 1993. Emma Geren was honored for her 33 years of perfect club attendance and District Conferences. A presentation by Rita McCallum, emphasizing "Bold Vision - Bold Action" as per International's theme. Connie Nungary left as Governor on December 31, 1993 in order to be eligible to run for an International office. Beatrice Reed, a brave lady but also a very capable one, became our Governor. Kathleen Thomas of International appointed Sharon Finlayson Governor-Elect. After much soul-searching, Santa Maria disbanded their club on January 25, 1994. They were originally chartered in 1963 and, needless to say, the entire District 33 membership was devastated! Eight of Santa Maria's club members transferred to the Five Cities Club including two past District Governors Jean Coon and Nancy Keyte. Connie Nungaray ran a successful campaign for West Area Director, Charlotte Schamadan of 25th District went up to International Treasurer - change is in the air for Quota. Each club is now known as Quota International of ________. We also have reverted back to Governor and Lt. Governor, which is far more practical. We are saddened to hear that the club that was being organized in Santa Barbara has had to postpone its charter date indefinitely - maybe in the future they will be able to form a new club. Hanford has also been sidelined at this time. The 31st Annual District 33rd Conference was held in Pismo Beach by Five Cities club. Beatrice Reed was re-elected Governor and Sharon Finlayson stayed on as Governor-Elect/Lt. Governor with Joyce Wells as the new Secretary-Treasurer. "Catch a Quota Wave" was the theme and Connie Nungaray was our International representative. Excellent conference! Fifty-eight (58) members of Quota were in attendance with a voting strength of 21. Connie gave us an excellent Area West meeting and continues to bring fun and energy to our club as well as new ideas and knowledge. A motion was made by Grace Myers of Paso Robles to establish a rotating schedule for future District 33 Conferences. This schedule would alleviate the uncertainty and provide for long range planning. Future conferences will be held as follows: Atascadero 1996 Paso Robles 2000 Templeton 1997 Five Cities 2001 Morro Bay 1998 Bakersfield 2002 Visalia 1999 San Luis Obispo 2003 Annually, each club in the District will be assessed a $75 pre-registration, District Conference fee to be paid in January in conjunction with regular District dues. As of July 1994, the membership total for District 33 was 230. We are an attendance club so attendance should be stressed. A few members of District 33 who were recognized for perfect club attendance are: Grace Myers Paso Robles 37 years Emma Geren Porterville 34 years Jessie Sinclair Morro Bay 30 years Jean Coon Five Cities 27 years Mary James Templeton 26 years There are many others in our District who have perfect attendance in the 10 and 20+ category! Porterville was the site and club hosting the 31st Conference for District 33. Sharon Finlayson of Templeton was elected Governor with Eva Lance of Bakersfield as Lt. Governor and Zaida Wallace of Templeton appointed as Secretary-Treasurer. "Back to Basics" was the theme of the conference. It sounds like Sharon has her work cut out for her. An organization, like a child, thrives best when it is encouraged, helped and guided in a wise and caring atmosphere. Bobbi Cary, International President-Elect honored us with her up-beat manner and brought greetings and information from Quota International. It was decided that conference would be held either in September or October to provide a more flexible schedule. In June 1996, at Leadership Training with Governor Sharon Finlayson presiding, we were presented with another shocker - Porterville announced that as of July 30, 1996 their club would no longer exist. All the members were shocked and tearful. Gerry Quinn, President of Porterville, will become a member-at-Iarge until other arrangements can be worked out. We are now an eight-(8) club District and as of July 30, 1996 have a total membership of 230 members. Atascadero 23 Paso Robles 38 Bakersfield 28 San Luis Obispo 35 Five Cities 22 Templeton 25 Morro Bay 44 Visalia 13 International Convention was held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Membership classification has been changed to two classifications - "Active" and "Members at Large." Any person willing to commit their time, talent and resources to further Quota International's service goals is now being sought for membership. Our dues must be paid in advance annually, but to encourage new members we will be able to prorate the dues depending on when the new member joins. Connie Nungaray lost her bid for International Treasurer but there is always next year. The good news was that Charlotte Schamadan was elected President-Elect of International! She is moving on up...Bobbi Carey is our new International President. She is a ball of fire! Sharon has done a great job as Governor of 33rd District this year. She has capably guided us during changing and often trying times with a smile and a hug. We’re looking forward to an exciting conference in Atascadero, September 21st through 23rd - can't wait to hear who our new officers will be! The Atascadero Quota Club hosted the 32nd Conference of District 33 1997-1998. The theme was "Quota Safari;" animals were everywhere, even a huge baboon. Kathy Peirson was elected Governor, Dottie Kraause was elected Lt. Governor, and DeLynn Guttry was appointed Secretary-Treasurer. The total Conference registration was 38. Convention for 1997 will be in New Zealand; Templeton will host our next Conference. This conference has been wonderful and very informative. Very important news, Governor Kathy is in love! The 33rd District Conference was our first one-day Conference; Templeton hosted in conjunction with District 12 in Monterey, October 18, 1997. "Double Your Pleasure-Double Your Fun" was the theme. Connie Biaggini was nominated for International Vice President. 1998 will be the site of our next Convention in Vail, Colorado. Our District 33 officers are doing a repeat for the following year, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.” Our Governor who is now Kathy Johnson was re-elected, as was our Lt. Governor Dottie Krause; DeLynn Guttry was re-appointed Secretary-Treasurer. Charlotte Schamadan, International President was the Installation Officer, such an inspiring lady and such fun, we felt honored to have her. The 34th Conference of District 33 combined with the 60th Conference of District 12 was a joint endeavor held in Morro Bay October 24th and 25th, 1998. "Discover the Treasures of Morro Bay" was the theme with Morro Bay as host club. DeLynn Guttry was elected Governor, Dona Nolan was elected Lt. Governor and Linda Minton was appointed Secretary-Treasurer. Charlotte Schamadan, past International President was the speaker, Mary Cotter and Connie Biaggini; both International officers represented International. Fifty-two people attended and everyone had a very good time. District 33 has 159 members as of May 21, 1999. Sad news was received in January 1998 of the Visalia Club’s decision to disband their club after several years of struggling, they hope to reorganize in the not too distant future. We now have only seven clubs in our District 33; our work is cut out for us. . District 33 has $2,206.60 in the Wanda Frey Joiner Fund as of March 9, 1999, which will help us to continue to organize new clubs and also help salvage existing clubs that are in trouble. Governor DeLynn is a gracious, informative lady and a true joy to work with. We will miss her if she chooses not to continue in 1999-2000. The prospective club in Santa Maria that is being organized by Dona Nolan is still pending with hopes of chartering in the near future. An invitation to Boston for the 1999 Convention has all of us excited and "packing" our bags, as Mary James would say. Convention in Boston is over and we were saddened that our Connie Biaggini did not win; she will be back and win next time as she always does. We have had three International Officers from our District Mary Moses, Jean Wassum and Connie Biaggini. We take great pride in all three. Morro Bay has now had eight governors for District 33; it must be in the water! The 35th District Conference, which will be the last Conference in the millennium, will be held in Paso Robles on October 29, 30 and 31, 1999 for District 33. The Paso Robles group promises to entertain you royally. In other words, we'll have a blast! Lots of surprises, lots of fun, District 33 is ready for any and everything as long as it is legal. The 35th District Conference was held at the Paso Robles Inn in Paso Robles hosted by Quota International of Paso Robles with Governor DeLynn Guttry presiding, total attendance of 47. "Bloom Where You Are Planted" is the theme of our International President this year. International Treasurer Lynn Caroon was our representative for Quota at our District Conference. Past International President Charlotte Shamadan was the entertaining speaker for our dinner and installation, Linda Minton is our new Governor and Dona Nolan will be Lt. Governor, quite a team! Nicol Lea was a special guest since she is running for Area West Director, shortly. Our lively Santa Maria Club was chartered January 22, 2000 and has added so much enthusiasm to our District 33. We have a total of 43 Districts and thirteen Countries. Seven new clubs were chartered in 1998 and six new clubs in 1999. Our next International Convention will be in Calgary, Canada and the next District Conference will be hosted by Five Cities. The 36th Annual District Conference was held at Sycamore Mineral Springs in Avila Beach by the hostess club of Quota International of Five Cities. The theme of the Conference was "Fruits of the Harvest - Quota Vision 2000". Governor Linda Minton conducted an inspiring and informative meeting with 50 members in attendance. Our guest speakers were Mary Moses, Past District Governor, Past International Area West Director and accomplished author. Also, Charlotte Shamadan, a Past International President, author and very informative speaker, kept everyone laughing with her dry humor. Nicol was our International Representative and now is International West Area Director. The most surprising event was the donation the District presented to the Myers Scholarship Fund at Cuesta College in honor of long time member Grace Myers, whose husband died in September 2000. We have eight clubs in District 33 at this time and are continuing to strive for more new members and at least two more clubs. The Bakersfield Club held the 37th Annual District Conference at the Four Points Sheraton in Bakersfield on October 27, 2001. Linda Minton conducted her last District Conference, as she will be running for Area West Director, in which we wish her our best. Bakersfield Quota members gave an outstanding and very enjoyable Conference. While hearing is the primary focus for the Bakersfield Club, newborn hearing and screening is a top project for all clubs in the District. The Paso Robles Club was screening newborn infants 25 years ago at the local hospital, buying hearing aids and hearing dogs for those in need. The Morro Bay has been buying equipment for the hearing impaired and will continue to do so. All of the other clubs have been very much involved in different ways. With 165 members now in the District, we should be able to accomplish some good! Lynn Caroon was again our guest speaker and is now our International President. Kathy Johnson of Atascadero was elected as our new Governor and Mary McAlister as Lt. Governor, so the District is in good hands. Everyone enjoyed interacting with our International President-Elect Beatriz Doran-Scoop from Quota International of Curacao, Netherland Antilles. She was an absolute delight! Quota International of San Luis Obispo issued an invitation to District 33 Conference in 2002 and a little bird told me that the Madonna Inn might be the place. Linda Minton is our new Area West Director, and we're delighted! WHAT IS A QUOTARIAN? Quietly aware of the needs of others, Understanding that the work might be hard Offering unselfishly of time and energy, True to the ideals of Quota Always there when someone needs her Ready to work when called upon In adversity or calm A true friend, Never ceasing in efforts for all.
